It is with honor and gratitude that we announce, Familias en Acción is the recipient of a $2 million gift from the Yield Giving Open Call, an initiative created by philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.
In 2023, our Development team completed a multi-step application and peer-review process to apply for this funding opportunity. From a pool of over 6,000 applicants, we were one of 361 organizations across the country, and one of only three organizations in Oregon to receive an award.
This transformational gift will enable us to continue to deliver on our mission of strengthening the health and well-being of Latino families and communities in Oregon. It will allow us to sustain and expand programming statewide in Oregon, directly benefiting members of our community.
We want to thank all of our staff, board, community members, partners, and donors for helping us to get to this point. This award would not have been possible without everyone’s dedication to and belief in our health equity work.

Hoy me dirijo a ustedes con sentimientos encontrados, ya que después de más de cinco maravillosos años como Director Ejecutivo de Familias en Acción, he tomado la difícil decisión de realizar una transición y dejar mi cargo. Esta noticia me llena de tristeza y esperanza a la vez, al reflexionar sobre la gran inversión personal y pasión que he dedicado a esta organización, pero también al contemplar las oportunidades que se avecinan para Familias en Acción.
Durante mi tiempo como Director Ejecutivo, he tenido el privilegio de trabajar junto a un equipo excepcional y colaborar con una comunidad incondicionalmente solidaria. Juntos, hemos fortalecido nuestra organización, donde los valores de Familias, Empoderar, Confianza, Innovación e Inclusividad son el pilar de nuestro trabajo. Me llena de orgullo observar cómo nuestras políticas, programas y procesos han sido fortalecidos y mejorados a lo largo de los años, permitiéndonos tener un impacto aún más significativo en la vida de las familias que servimos.
Al reflexionar reconozco la importancia de la adaptabilidad y el crecimiento. Así como promovemos el crecimiento dentro de Familias en Acción, también comprendo la relevancia de una transición en el liderazgo para garantizar la evolución y sostenibilidad continua de la organización. Creo que esta transición representa una oportunidad única para Familias en Acción, donde podremos construir sobre la sólida base que hemos establecido y dar la bienvenida a nuevas perspectivas que nos guiarán hacia un futuro aún más prometedor.
Me alegra compartir que nuestra organización se encuentra en una posición maravillosa, con un equipo excepcionalmente talentoso y comprometido con nuestra misión y valores. Hemos experimentado un inmenso crecimiento organizativo y nos hemos enfocado recientemente en fortalecer nuestra capacidad para continuar sosteniendo los beneficios y programas comunitarios. Trabajando con el Consejo Directivo, nuestro objetivo es que, para el 30 de Diciembre de este año, tengamos un nuevo Director Ejecutivo. Hasta entonces, me comprometo a apoyar al Consejo Directivo, al equipo de trabajo y a toda la comunidad de Familias en Acción durante este proceso de transición.

Today, with a heart full of mixed emotions, I am writing to announce that after more than five incredible years of working passionately towards our shared mission of advancing Latino health equity, the time has come for me to transition from my role as the Executive Director of Familias en Acción. This announcement comes with bittersweet emotions as I reflect on the immense personal investment and passion I have poured into this organization, but I am also excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for Familias en Acción. I leave behind an organization that I hold dear to my heart, as well as an organization embarking on new chapters filled with endless opportunities.
First and foremost, I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you-the staff, volunteers, community members, and partners-who have been the driving force behind our accomplishments. It has been an absolute honor to lead this remarkable organization and witness the transformative impact we have made together.
When I reflect on my journey here, I am filled with pride for the initiatives we have launched and the positive change we have brought about. From our comprehensive health education programs that further empower individuals and families, to our advocacy efforts that have resulted in policy changes to address health disparities, Familias en Acción has been at the forefront of driving systemic change.
I have had the privilege to work alongside an exceptional team and collaborate with an unwaveringly supportive community. I am particularly proud of our collaborations and partnerships that have strengthened our work. Together, we have fostered meaningful relationships with healthcare providers, community organizations, government agencies, and philanthropic institutions. These alliances have amplified our impact and allowed us to reach even greater heights in our pursuit of health equity for Latino/x/e communities.
Working with the Board of Directors, our goal is to have a new Executive Director hired by December 30th, 2023. Familias en Acción holds a special place in my heart, and I remain committed as Executive Director until then to support the Board of Directors, staff, and the entire Familias en Acción community throughout this transition process.
I want to assure you that our organization is in a wonderful position, with a fantastic management team that is committed to our mission and values. Familias en Acción is primed for continued success, and there is nothing but great work and excitement ahead. Reflecting on my learnings, I am reminded of the importance of adaptability and growth. Just as we champion growth within Familias en Acción, I too recognize the significance of leadership transition to foster an organization’s continuous evolution and sustainability. I believe that this transition is a unique opportunity for Familias en Acción to build on the strong foundation we have laid and to welcome fresh perspectives that will lead us into an even brighter future.

Together, we have built something truly remarkable, and I am filled with gratitude for the cherished memories and connections I have made.
