Take our 5-minute CHW Survey

We invite all Latino/x/e-serving CHWs to complete the survey linked below!

Familias en Acción invites Community Health Workers serving Latino/x/e communities to provide their feedback and opinions for the 13th annual Latino Health Equity Conference. Even if you do not plan to attend, we value your input! This will help Familias en Acción make this conference a truly memorable experience for CHWs.

Since CHWs are front and center in this year’s topic, and we at Familias understand all of the emotional labor that goes into this work, we really want to make the workshops/presentations for CHWs a healing experience. We also want to make the Day 2 celebration – which is specifically for CHWs – to include things that they enjoy and would appreciate seeing there.

We created a brief survey (5 min) to gather more information from Latino/x/e CHWs about what self care means to them and what types of presentations they would like to attend.

***All CHWs who complete the survey will be entered into a raffle to receive a $250 gift card to be used for any self care item or activity of their choosing.

Survey responses are due no later than March 31, 2022.

About the conference:

This year’s conference – The Power of Community – is dedicated to recognizing, uplifting, and learning from Community Health Workers (CHWs) and community based organizations who have been working on the frontlines throughout the pandemic. It is all about coming together to celebrate CHWs, and providing a platform to address gaps and changes needed in healthcare systems serving Latino/x/e communities. The two-day conference will be held on June 9th and 10th, 2022 and include a full day of speakers and presentations, followed by an afternoon celebration for CHWs.

LHEC: The Power of Community

Join us on June 9 + 10 2022 for our 13th Annual Latino Health Equity Conference: The Power of Community

Through the ever-changing and often uncertain landscape the covid-19 pandemic has created, there is one thing that we are certain of: we wouldn’t have had the same level of success in keeping our communities safe without Community Health Workers (CHWs).

This will be an inspiring conference that celebrates CHWs and CBOs, and addresses gaps and changes needed in healthcare systems serving Latino/x/e communities, specifically in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Presentations will shed light on how CHWs and CBOs reshaped public health through the pandemic and how collaborations with State & Local Public Health Authorities, major healthcare systems, and local providers have paved the way for a new future that will continue to support Latino/x/e and BIPOC health.

Background

In 2009, Familias held its first Latino Health Equity Conference (LHEC) bringing together Promotores, community members, public health practitioners, researchers, policy makers and other experts to focus strategies for Latino health equity. The conference provides a forum to focus on individual and community issues addressing Latino health equity through research, programs, and policies.

2021 Latino Health Equity Conference:

Familias en Acción is proud to present our 12th annual Latino Health Equity Conference, “Me cuido, te cuido”. “Me cuido, te cuido”, prioritizes one’s health, the health of ones partners, and that of the community. This perspective cultivates and promotes values of mutual respect, acceptance, equality and empathy. This year’s virtual conference aims to broaden our knowledge and awareness on sexual health, sexuality, and HIV by leveraging the experiences of the Latino community. 2016 LHEC Opening Keynote

STEVEN LOPEZ, MPP, MPH

Manager, Health Policy Project at National Council of La Raza (NCLR)

Steven T. Lopez is the manager of the Health Policy Project at the National Council of La Raza. As manager, Mr. Lopez leads the development and advancement of public policies aimed at increasing the opportunity and ability of Latinos to achieve optimal health no matter who they are, where they live, or how much they earn.

His work has focused on increasing health coverage opportunities for the millions of Latinos who could gain health insurance through the Affordable Care Act, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, as well as advancing options for the remaining uninsured.

The intersection of nutrition, hunger, and childhood obesity is another priority area for Lopez, given that Hispanic children are more likely than their peers to be overweight or obese. His current attention focuses most specifically on these two priorities.

Lopez holds master’s degrees in public policy and public health from the University of California at Berkeley and a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University.

As our Opening Keynote speaker, Steven Lopez will engage the conference attendees in a discussion of national immigration policies and the connection to Latino health disparities.

Immigration and Latino Health:

The Journey Ahead

The 2016 LHEC will examine the unique health issues faced by Latino immigrant communities in the United States.  While conflict and poverty in the immigrants’ countries of origin are major reasons for crossing the border in the U.S., it is less clear what impact this trauma has on the health of immigrant communities.  Crossing without documents can produce long term health effects; even if documented, immigrants still face major political, cultural, and economic barriers that impact health.  We will explore these experiences in relation to age, gender, economics, language, and sociocultural traditions, focusing on how these factors affect health and healthcare delivery in the U.S.

Early Bird Registration will close April 15th!

Please register early as space is limited.
